The Pecan Street Preachers were formed after a handful of shows over the last two years where Graham Wilkinson & The Flying Raye shared a few bills together. Wilkinson produced Raye's most recent album \"Never Too Old To Die Young\" by enlisting his mainstay band members along with other Austin all-stars. The two have been collaborating and writing lyrics with each other for the last decade but it wasn't until a few months ago that they decided to record a few of their newest numbers together as The Pecan Street Preachers ...turns out, they also happen to be best buds and according to most reports, they truly do enjoy being around each other.

We're folk singers/songwriters, right... Meaning the majority of what we write is honest, observational, and as often as not, raw and potentially dark. We don't always sit down and say to ourselves let's write a song about such and such, but rather we find a groove on the guitar and/or a come up with a catchy hook and build out from there. Rhymes start to come together, more likely than not, subconsciously without any obvious intention or understanding as to what exactly we writing about or where we are heading with it until it's about done. Hey Hey Darling is no exception. We started with a hook conjured up in a dream and lines just kept coming out and before we knew it we had a finished song. When we sat down to figure out and analyze what we had just created we realized we'd composed what we felt was a highly original song about imperfect people striving to be better in wholly imperfect ways. The song, on thr surface, is about a guy who has made mistake after mistake in a relationship that he's exploded more than one. After having some time in the penitentiary to ponder and reflect on those mistakes, he seems to have some idea that he messed up and is hoping for a shot at a romantic reunion and possible redemption, but in so doing still can't get out of his own way. Just below the surface it's sort of an acknowledgement that, for a lot of folks, doing the right thing just doesn't come naturally and the path to redemption can be a long and difficult process with a lot of personal trip wires to step over.

This EP was recorded in anticipation of PSP's headlining debut in Luckenbach, TX on June 7th 2025. The Flying Raye and Graham Wilkinson wrote the title track while on the road back from some shows in Taos & Santa Fe this last January after getting an offer to play the legendary dancehall and thus began the process of tracking these 5 songs. The songwriters and their band are already back in the studio working on the other half of this album and are about to embark on a little tour promoting the release... keep an eye out this summer for the Pecan Street Preachers on the road!
